International success for Walton members

Several Walton members represented GB in international events this summer.

At the Senior World Championships in Belgrade this month, the GB eight retained their World title with a fantastic performance, and qualified in top place for the Paris Olympics. Two Walton Hon Life members contributed to this: Morgan Bolding rowing in the 2-seat and Olympic gold medallist Steve Trapmore as the coach. They started off steadily in the pack but produced a stunning third 500m to build an unassailable lengths lead and repeat the gold medal winning performance of last year. Watch the BBC video here and the full race is definitely worth watching on the World Rowing site here.

Meanwhile another former Walton junior, Matt Heywood, was selected for the GB senior development eight which competed in the International Netz Cup race in Germany. Congratulations to him and his crew for winning the event overall. More details from British Rowing here .

And Maddy Jackson was selected for the women’s pair at the European Universities Championships in Bidgozscs, Poland. Representing GB and Cambridge University, her lightweight crew had a great row to win the B-final and come 7th overall in openweight pairs. Read the British Rowing report here .
